Zendaya gives cheeky response to fan’s proposal at Spider-Man event
Zendaya jokes she’s off the market at Spider-Man event
Zendaya had a playful response when a fan proposed to her on the red carpet at the Spider-Man: Brand New Day event in Mexico City on Monday.
As the actress greeted fans, someone shouted, “Will you marry me, please?” According to video shared on social media, Zendaya laughed and replied, “You’re too late!”
The three-word answer appeared to reference her marriage to longtime partner and Spider-Man co-star Tom Holland.
Exchange comes after Holland’s recent comments
The red-carpet moment follows a string of recent comments from Holland about their relationship.
During a Wired interview promoting The Odyssey, Holland joked that Zendaya’s character Athena could not be romantically interested in Matt Damon’s Odysseus “because she’s married to me.”
Holland also confirmed in a June interview with Esquire that the couple had tied the knot, saying his family attended the wedding when discussing fake AI-generated wedding images circulating online.
Couple continue Spider-Man press tour
Zendaya and Holland appeared together at the Mexico event as part of the international press tour for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The actors have been linked since 2017 after meeting during a screen test for Spider-Man: Homecoming. Recent appearances, including Holland referring to Zendaya as his “wife” on the U.K. podcast Dish, have further confirmed the couple’s married status.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to open in theatres on July 30.
