‘The Nun II:’ Everything to know before watching the latest addition to ‘The Conjuring’ franchise

After much anticipation, the haunting new addition to The Conjuring franchise, The Nun II, released in theatres today on September 8, 2023, worldwide.

The Nun II - the sequel to 2018’s hit horror film The Nun – is a prequel to the original The Conjuring film, exploring the origins of the haunting demon Valak.

While The Nun II is directly connected with its predecessor (The Conjuring movie) here’s a quick recap to refresh your memory and follow the horrific plot.

The Nun is the prequel to 2013 released The Conjuring in which Lorraine Warren (played by Vera Farmiga) is warning about the demonic spirit of Valak.

The sequel takes viewers deep into the origin of Valak by taking the story back to 1952 in an abbey of St. Carta, Romania.

‘The Nun II’ plot:

The horrors of Valak unfolds in Vatican and Father Burke (Demián Bichir) come to Rome, along with Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga), to investigate the circumstances, which later take a horrifying turn for Father Burke and Sister Irene.

Valak returns:

Valak will be back to give nightmares as it did previously throughout the Conjuring franchise. The Nun will delve deep in Valak's origin

The Nun II will also give a detailed look at Frenchie, revealing that he is Maurice. He is also revealed to be the same person who attacked Lorraine in The Conjuring, after which Lorraine gets a vision of Valak and Ed's deaths.

‘The Nun II’ cast:

Taissa Farmiga will return as Sister Irene. Demián Bichir as Father Burke, Jonas Bloquet as Frenchie / Maurice and Bonnie Aarons joins the cast as Valak the Nun.

The Nun II - released five years after the first installment - is currently running in theatres across the globe.
