Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car continues to make history as it won the 57th CMA Awards for song of the year, 35 years after its debut in 1988.
The Grammy winning artist could not make it to the ceremony but sent in an acceptance speech to the country music category’s representative, Sarah Evans.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t join you all tonight. It’s truly an honor for my song to be newly recognized after 35 years of its debut. Wow! Thank you to the CMAs and a special thanks to Luke and to all of the fans of Fast Car,” Evans read on behalf of Chapman.
