Eric McCormack and Wife Janet Holden call it quits after 26 years of marriage

Eric McCormack known for his role in Will and Grace, and his wife Janet Holden have reached a crossroads, as reports emerge that Janet has officially filed for divorce after 26 years of matrimony.

The 60-year-old actor and the filmmaker are ending their marriage, as revealed in court documents acquired by PEOPLE, marking the conclusion of their more than two decades of marriage.

Janet, who initiated the divorce proceedings based on "irreconcilable differences," is asking for spousal support while also urging the court to terminate Eric's eligibility to receive such support.

The divorce filing, submitted in Los Angeles County Superior Court a day prior to Thanksgiving, did not specify a date of separation.

The ex-partners initially crossed paths in 1994 while working on the CBS TV series Lonesome Dove.

Janet served as the assistant director, while Eric took on the role of Col. Francis Clay Mosby.

They eventually exchanged vows in August 1997, and their family grew when they welcomed their sole child, a son named Finnigan Holden McCormack, five years later.

In a 2007 interview with The Guardian, under the title Insights on Women, Eric provided snippets of information about his connection with Janet.

He stated“I met my wife, Janet, in 1994 on the set of a TV series. She was the assistant director. I was just coming out of a relationship, and not to be trusted," adding, "I'd been dating actresses but Janet was different. She wore jeans, drove a pick-up truck.”

The Perception actor continued, “At first she wasn't too keen. She knew actors are a lot of work: it would be like taking your work home with you.”
