'Barbie' star Simu Liu 'Gutted' as health forces exit from Disney's Candlelight Processional

Simu Liu, the Canadian actor and singer, known for his role in Barbie, has withdrawn from Disney World's 2023 Candlelight Processional due to health concerns.

The One True Loves actor took to his Instagram story on Thursday, expressing that he is ‘absolutely gutted’ to step down from narrating the holiday event, citing paramount importance to the health of himself and his family.

He wrote, “I'm so absolutely gutted to have to drop out of this year's Candlelight Processional at Disney World.”

“For those who were looking forward to seeing me, know that I was equally looking forward to be a part of your holidays,” the Avengers: Secret War actor wrote.

He further added, “The health of myself and my family are of paramount importance to me. After all, that's the spirit of this season! And so, after some health scares I've made the difficult decision to stay at home.”

The Candlelight Processional, a cherished tradition at Epcot, features a celebrity narrator recounting the Christmas story accompanied by an orchestra and the Voices of Liberty choir.

Liu, originally scheduled to narrate from November 30 to December 2, has been replaced by singer-songwriter Bart Millard.

Liu hinted at a potential return next year, concluding his Instagram statement with, “Something tells me this isn't the last you've seen of me at Candlelight though... let's all keep fingers crossed for 2024!”
