Jo Koy performed his first comedy gig during his Joy Koy World Tour, after the backlash he received for his hosting at the recent 2024 Golden Globe Awards.

As reported by Variety, the comedian performed at St. Louis after arriving late from his flight due to a midwestern storm.

His flight from Los Angeles had to make an emergency landing in Kansas City while the audience waited for Koy at the Stifel Theatre.

A screen for the audience at the venue, read, “No heckling. You are interrupting the show for everyone. Just don’t do it. Hecklers will be removed from the venue.”

Twenty-five minutes after his expected arrival time, the 3,100-seat theatre announced, “Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for your patience. We are dealing with some inclement weather. The artist will be arriving shortly.”

Nearly an hour later, the 52-year-old comedian came onstage and received thunderous applause of love and support along with a standing ovation.

“Holy s-, right?” Koy exclaimed after the applause. “This big hug that you gave me is all I need, swear to god. F-ing whirlwind, goddamn.”

Referring to his rather controversial Golden Globes hosting gig he continued, “Lot a marshmallows, man. They’re delicious, but goddamn, they’re soft. I just come from a different time. I see the changes that are happening. I get it, but goddamn, can we f- laugh at ourselves?”

The venue boomed with laughter and applause while someone from the audience yelled, “F- ‘em!”

“I got a feeling none of you m-f- watched it, and I’m kinda happy. Oh my god. It feels good to live in this country. We get to say what we want to say. Don’t be apologetic about it at all. Be able to…speak your mind,” he said with a sigh of relief.

Even though the stand-up comedian never addressed the award ceremony directly by name, after hinting at it subtly he proceeded towards his stand-up gig as he explained how he got to the venue.

“We Uber-ed here. We f- Uber-ed here! It was four and a half hours,” Koy exclaimed.

Reflecting on how he and his crew had to make an emergency landing he said, “My whole crew, none of them brought parkas. Me? I brought two. You think the snow is CGI? It’s real snow m-f-. We’re inside of a goddamn snow globe! We should be dead right now––all of us. If not by the plane, then by the snow,” he said, as he received laughs from the audience.

Koy joked, “The weather is better in Hollywood, but I’m happy to be in this blizzard. When it rains, it pours.”

As Koy enjoyed himself being back on stage he addressed the crowd saying, “Oh God, this is fun. I haven’t laughed in four days. I’m so happy. You guys make me so happy,” and the audience gave the comedian another round of thundering applause.
