Nicole Kidman opens up about body insecurities: 'I Wanted to Be 5'2'
The Oscar winner talked candidly about her early concerns
Nicole Kidman has opened up about her struggles with body image during her younger years, revealing that she was often teased for her height and longed to be shorter and curvier, saying, "I wanted to be 5'2" and curvaceous."
In the premiere of the new Hulu documentary series, In Vogue: The 90s, which debuted on September 13, the Oscar winner talked candidly about her early concerns.
Giving viewers an inside peek at the fashion industry amid the decade of grunge and supermodels, the series took off right away.
Through the prism of Vogue magazine and its renowned editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, it delves deeply into the 1990s.
“Can you believe it?” Kidman rhetorically asked. “My whole life, I wanted to be 5’2” and curvaceous and suddenly, being 5’11 and completely sort of skinny and flat chested was like, ‘Great, we can dress you.’ ”
Kidman also talked on how much she respected those who had established their own identities in the fashion industry through the collaborations and designers they choose.
“I grew up watching Audrey Hepburn and Katharine Hepburn and Grace Kelly — all these women whose style was created with the designers that they’re affiliated with,” Kidman said.
She continued, “They just loved fashion. So I remember thinking, but of course, this should be brought into Hollywood now, and we should be wearing the things that are made in these gorgeous little salons in Paris. Because that’s what they used to do, so why aren’t we still doing it?”
To note, on September 13, the first three episodes of In Vogue: The 90s made their premiere and on September 20, the last three episodes will air.
