Celebrities you didn’t know were introverts

You might believe that fame and introversion don’t mix, but believe it or not many celebrities often do not thrive in constant attention.

Some of the biggest icons are surprisingly introverted at heart.

Despite the flashy red carpets, premieres and star studded events, many celebrities have actually admitted their true introverted nature and their need for space away from the spotlight.

Here is a list of big names who are actually introverted and you didn’t know:

Zayn Malik

This may not come as a surprise to the dedicated fans of not only Zayn but the pop band One Direction as well, but the Pillow Talk hitmaker describes himself as an “introverted extrovert.”

During his appearance on Fearne Cotton's Happy Place podcast, he was asked if he would call himself an introvert, to which the 32-year-old English singer-songwriter candidly quipped, " I think so. But I think it’s contradictory because of my profession."

Continuing, "So, I guess I am somewhat an extrovert because I do like to share things with people but as a day to day person, I am definitely introverted."

Lorde

Though she commands the stage with ease, Lorde, whose real name is Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor, admitted that she is also one of those artists who are naturally introverts.

While speaking to Vanity Fair, the New Zealand singer-songwriter shared, "I'm really a shy, library person."

“I’m an introvert, a writer, just trying to translate what’s inside my chest.”

Emma Watson

Emma Watson may look completely at ease, comfortable and confident, sitting at the front row of fashion shows or speaking at the UN.

However, she has admitted she is an introvert at heart.

During her chat with Rookie Magazine, the Beauty and the Beast star stated, "I'm an introvert, for sure. I've always been quite quiet, and I love observing people. I think I use that as an actor."

Continuing, "I love trying to understand people, wondering what's going on behind their eyes."

"Coming to realize that about myself was very empowering, because I had felt like Oh my god, there must be something wrong with me, because I don’t want to go out and do what all my friends want to do," she added.

Lady Gaga

Behind her big, unique costumes and powerful and exhilarating stage presence, Lady Gaga has revealed that she is much more introverted than people realise.

"People think I'm really confident but I'm actually quite shy and insecure," the Poker Face hitmaker shared while talking to The Daily Star.

“I never want to talk to anyone at the big celebrity functions because I don't know anyone and I'm shy and get awkward. I like my real friends around me so that's why wearing the meat dress was so great because it stunk and no one wanted to talk to me."

Chris Evans

Chris Evans might embody Marvel’s confident and outgoing superhero Captain America, but as it turns out, he is also an introvert in real life.

During his interview with Variety, he explained, "I'm more of an introvert, I'm more of a homebody."

Further adding, "I'd rather stay home and read a book or watch a movie. Being in the public eye can be a bit overwhelming sometimes, which is why I really value my private time."

Ryan Reynolds

Ryan may be known for his funny and lively personality online, he admitted that offscreen much more introverted. 

Talking to The New York Times, the Deadpool actor revealed, "I've always been an anxious person, and I'm a real introvert. People are surprised because I can turn it on at times, but I need my quiet time. I actually get drained by being out there and being that guy."
