New features coming to next-generation Apple HomePod mini

The upcoming Apple HomePod mini is anticipated to launch in the third quarter of 2025, according to industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Initially introduced in 2020 alongside the iPhone 12 lineup, the HomePod mini has remained untouched. Now, for the first time, Apple will be updating the HomePod mini, bringing several notable enhancements.

This next-generation Apple HomePod mini is expected to be released with several exciting new features. One of the most significant upgrades is the introduction of Apple's in-house networking chipset, codenamed "Proxima," which will bring Wi-Fi 6E capabilities to the device.

The chip has the potential to serve as a wireless access point, allowing the HomePod mini to become part of a Wi-Fi mesh network, similar to the discontinued AirPort Express.

Additionally, the new HomePod mini might feature improved audio quality, as it's been five years since the last refresh.

Moreover, users might see updated colour options, although nothing has been confirmed yet.

However, unfortunately, it's unlikely that the upcoming HomePod mini will gain support for Apple Intelligence features, which would require a more powerful A17 Pro or A18 chipset.

Instead, Apple's upcoming smart home display, rumoured to be called "HomePad," is expected to integrate Apple Intelligence features.
