TikTok alternative Neptune to launch on iOS

In a remarkable development, a new short-form video app called “Neptune,” is set to launch on the App Store next week, as an alternative to ByteDance-owned TikTok.

Currently in beta, the app has already attracted thousands of users, with 970 testers participating and 400,000 people on the waitlist.

Neptune's founder, Ashley Darling, aims to create a platform that prioritises creativity over follower counts.

Darling, who has a background working with influencers, was inspired to develop Neptune after hearing creators express their desire for a platform that focuses on creativity rather than competition.

The app features a discovery tool, vertical feed, and optional "ghost metrics" that allow creators to hide their follower counts and likes.

The app’s algorithm emphasises user interests and content quality, rather than creator popularity, giving micro-influencers a chance to shine

The company has planned to offer revenue streams, including tips, livestreams, and subscriptions. The app also features "Hop Back," which allows users to resume watching videos where they left off.

While Neptune is still in beta and lacks some features, the company is working on adding livestream capabilities, playlist creation, and music integrations.

Moreover, the company plans to roll out the app on the Google Play Store in few months.
