OpenAI’s new GPT-4.1 AI models excel at coding

In a significant breakthrough, OpenAI has launched a new series of artificial intelligence (AI) models called GPT-4.1.

According to the AI startup, the models, including GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and GPT-4.1 nano, excel at coding and follow the instructions properly.

Available through OpenAI's API, the AI models feature a one-million-token context window, allowing them to process large amounts of text.

As per the company, GPT-4.1 has outperformed its previous models, GPT-4o and GPT-4o mini, on coding benchmarks like SWE-bench.

OpenAI has claimed that GPT-4.1 can handle complex software engineering tasks and is optimized for real-world use based on developer feedback.

It should be noted that the full GPT-4.1 model costs $2 per million input tokens and $8 per million output tokens, while the mini and nano versions are more affordable and efficient, but with some loss of accuracy.

The GPT-4.1 mini model costs $0.40 per million input tokens and $1.60 per million output tokens, and the GPT-4.1 nano costs $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.40 per million output tokens.

Moreover, in internal testing, GPT-4.1 scored between 52% and 54.6% on SWE-bench Verified, slightly below the scores reported by Google and Anthropic for their models.
