Fat Joe shares another 'devastating' family loss

Fat Joe, whose real name is Joseph Antonio Cartagena, has recently shared heartbreaking news announcing the death of his mother, Marie Del-Carmen Cartagena.

The 54-year-old rapper took to his Instagram handle on Saturday, May 3, where he shared the tragic news of losing his mother at the age of 77, as per TMZ.

Joe wrote a lengthy caption, saying, "This a real one, rest in peace to the woman who brought me in this world. She didn't have much but she gave us everything."

He continued sharing how close he was to his mother and the kind of person she was, "Anyone who knows my mom knows she had a heart of gold."

"She refused to move out the projects for many years even though I had money. She loved her community, she loved her people — Ms. Ruby the Terror Squad Queen," Joe added.

The musician mentioned that his late mother was "sooooooo proud of us," referring to his friends and frequent collaborators, DJ Khaled, Remy Ma, stylist Terrell Jones, and more.

It is pertinent to mention that Maria died less than three months after the demise of Joe’s father, Ernesto, at age 89 in February.

"I have to give thanks to the father my God for letting me have her in my life this long," he continued.

For the unversed, Joe’s parents were together for nearly six decades.

The rapper added, "Truth is she died of a broken heart. 60 years with a man and he recently just died, my dad wanted her with him."

Fat Joe concluded the caption by expressing his love for his late mother, saying, "Mommy, till I see you again. You were my world, my heart, my everything. I’ll continue to make you proud."
