Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile shutting down after disappointing results
In a surprising move, Activision is shutting down the popular title “Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile,” just over a year after its global launch.
The decision comes after the game failed to meet expectations among mobile-first players, despite its success on PC and console platforms.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the company noted: “We deeply appreciate your dedication and passion for Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile. Going forward, we will be streamlining the scope of the game.”
“This decision was made after careful consideration of various factors, and while we're proud of the accomplishment in bringing Call of Duty: Warzone to mobile in an authentic way, it has not met our expectations with mobile-first players like it has with PC and console audiences,” the statement reads.
It should be noted that the game will be removed from the App Store and Google Play after May 18.
However, players who installed the game before May 19 will still be able to access it, with continued cross-progression and online play.
That said, there will be no new content updates, social features, or in-game purchases.
The game developer has stated that it will not offer refunds for previously purchased content or unspent COD Points.
For the unversed, the game's launch on March 21, 2024, allowed for shared progression with Call of Duty: Warzone on console and PC.
