Prince Edward takes on huge responsibility for Royal family
Prince Edward prepares to leave the United Kingdom for prestigious ceremony
As the world turns its attention towards the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV, Prince Edward is preparing to represent the Royal family at the ceremony.
Representing both King Charles or the Prince of Wales, the 61-year-old Duke of Edinburgh will make his way to Rome to attend the inauguration on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
The morning of 8th May, will see the commencement of the inauguration Mass for the 267th Pontiff and Bishop of Rome at St. Peter’s Square.
Prior to this, Prince William had honoured the long-standing royal rule and attended the funeral of Pope Francis’ in place of his father, the King.
According to reports, a spokesperson from Buckingham Palace came forward and confirmed, "The Duke of Edinburgh will represent His Majesty at the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV."
The reason for Charles' absence from the special ceremony is yet to be learned.
However, before the Duke could leave on his journey to the Capital city of Italy, the 76-year-old monarch was pictured in high spirits with Edward, as they made an appearance on the Royal Windsor Horse Show together on May 17, 2025.
This was quite a rare sight as the two brothers who are often seen together along with other Royal family members, were now seen standing united to pay homage to late Queen Elizabeth II by attending the annual horse show, which she often enjoyed.
