King Charles chose his youngest sibling, Prince Edward, to represent the Crown during Pope Leo XIV’s inaugural mass at the St. Peter’s Square today.

The official papal tenure for Pope Leo will begin henceforth, while the Duke of Edinburgh paid the royal family’s congratulations in person to mark this auspicious occasion.

Previously, the King enlisted the help of Prince William, who attended Pope Francis’ funeral as a representative of the royal family.

The British monarch has restrained from attending any events in connection with the papacy due to a well-established royal rule.

However, the King, who was accompanied by Queen Camilla, had stood audience with the late Pope before his passing during his state visit to Italy earlier this year.

Other public figures to attend the Catholic ceremony were US Vice President JD Vance, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, among several others.

Meanwhile, members of the Spanish royal family were some of the other royals to join the Duke on his duty.

Prince Edward was also accompanied by British officials Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner as well as Foreign Secretary David Lammy at Pope Leo XIV’s inauguration.
