Miley Cyrus reminisces her infamous 2013 VMAs performance

Miley Cyrus doesn’t shy away from taking a trip down her controversial moments.

On Thursday, May 22, the 32-year-old singer appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live where she shared details about her infamous 2013 VMAs twerking performance which faced severe backlash.

To everyone’s surprise, Cyrus credited Kimmel’s show for making her do that.

"Let me tell you, I am so happy to see you in my new era. This new era is very sophisticated and I have to tell you, your show allowed me to create the VMAs in 2013," she playfully confessed.

Recounting the time when the Wrecking Ball songstress first performed an outdoor episode at Kimmel’s show in 2013, Cyrus revealed, "I came here first and I kind of used the show as a trial run, you know, where I dance as a teddy bear like half naked, and everyone thought I was crazy."

"But to see if it was going to work, I did it here first," she quipped.

On the professional front, Miley Cyrus’s ninth studio album, Something Beautiful is slated for release on May 30, 2025.
