OpenAI to transform ChatGPT into ‘AI super assistant’ by 2025
OpenAI is preparing a major upgrade to ChatGPT, aiming to evolve the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot into an all-encompassing "AI super assistant" by the first half of 2025.
According to a leaked internal strategy document titled “ChatGPT: H1 2025 Strategy”, the Sam Altman-led AI startup envisions ChatGPT as more than just a conversational tool.
The company wants it to become a personalised, emotionally intelligent assistant embedded in users' daily lives.
Disclosed during the US Department of Justice’s antitrust case against Google, the internal roadmap details a vision where ChatGPT supports users at home, work, and more.
Whether it's planning vacations, summarising meetings, recommending recipes, or offering emotional support, the next-generation ChatGPT aims to deliver versatile and deeply personalised assistance.
This strategy also hints at OpenAI’s broader ambitions as the company is exploring dedicated hardware to enable seamless integration of ChatGPT into physical environments.
This move aligns with its recent $6.4 billion acquisition of “io,” a startup founded by former Apple designer Jony Ive, suggesting that specialised devices may be in development to support the assistant’s functions offline and beyond traditional apps.
OpenAI has also acknowledged increasing competition in the AI space.
The document has outlined plans to advocate for regulation that ensures users can select ChatGPT as their default assistant on various platforms, pushing back against tech giants that may prioritise their services.
