Prince Harry, Meghan Markle drop new update about their ‘Spencer’ name switch
Recent reports claimed that the Sussexes plan to adopt ‘Spencer’ as their family name

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently made headlines when reports emerged that the Duke of Sussex consulted his maternal uncle, Charles Spencer, for potentially adopting his mother’s family name of Spencer for his own.
Though multiple claims for the reported decision followed, attempting to explain it, the latest revealed that it specifically has to do with the Sussex couple’s children.
Both Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet reportedly faced the issue of “blocked” passport applications, and their parents believed that it was due to their royal titles, The Guardian reported.
While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had to wait as long as six months before the applications were approved.
“The applications also used the surname Sussex, which the family had already started using publicly; until 2023, Archie had US and British passports under the name Mountbatten-Windsor,” claimed the article.
According to the same report, the children’s father contacted his uncle due to extreme exasperation following the whole delay.
“Out of sheer exasperation he went to his uncle to effectively say: ‘My family are supposed to have the same name and they’re stopping that from happening because the kids are legally HRH, so if push comes to shove, if this blows up and they won’t let the kids be called Sussex, then can we use Spencer as a surname?’,” The Guardian revealed.
Notably, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children became eligible to adopt their royal titles following their grandfather, King Charles’ ascension to the throne in 2022, but only after proper approval from the new monarch.
