Sabrina Carpenter's new track about ex-boyfriend Barry Keoghan?

Sabrina Carpenter recently disclosed the meaning of her new single.

The 26-year-old pop singer took to her Instagram handle on Thursday, June 5 to offer glimpses into the making of her latest track, Manchild, whose audio version is out now.

"I wrote Manchild on a random Tuesday with Amy Allen and Jack Antonoff, right after wrapping Short n’ Sweet," the Espresso singer wrote.

"It ended up being the best random Tuesday of my life," she expressed her excitement.

In a carousel of behind-the-scenes photos from the song’s upcoming music video, Carpenter shared that the whole process was "so fun to write" for her.

"It became something I can look back on that scores the mental montage of my confusing and fun young adult years," the Juno songstress said, adding, "It sounds like the song embodiment of a loving eye roll, like a never-ending road trip in the summer."

Carpenter revealed that the timing of the release was intentional as she "wanted to give it" to her fans now so that they "can stick head out the car window and scream it all summer long."

The Nonsense singer concluded her caption by extending her heartfelt gratitude to her fans and muses, writing, "Thank you always and forever for listening and thank you men for testing me!!"

Though Carpenter didn’t mention any names, her fans were quick to connect her newly released song to her ex-boyfriend, Barry Keoghan.

It is worth noting that Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan were romantically linked in December 2023. 

The couple called it quits a year later, in December 2024.
