King Charles heartfelt conversation with Prince Philip before his death
Today marks what would have been Prince Philip’s 104th birthday

King Charles has shared the poignant final exchange he had with his father, Prince Philip, just hours before the Duke of Edinburgh passed away.
Marking what would have been Prince Philip’s 104th birthday today, the King once reflected on their last conversation in a BBC documentary celebrating the late royal’s life.
Philip died on April 9,2021 at the age of 99 at Windsor Castle.
During the interview, Charles recalled the moment with a mix of affection, highlighting Prince Philip's quick wit and humor.
Charles spoke of bringing up the topic of his father’s impending 100th birthday and suggested a party.
With Prince Philip hard of hearing in his final years, Charles said he spoke up, making sure his father could catch the message: “We’re talking about your birthday! And whether there’s going to be a reception!”
Philip’s response was classic and quick-witted: “Well, I’ve got to be alive for it, haven’t I?”
“I knew you’d say that!,” Charles replied with a laugh.
Though laced with his father’s signature dark humour, Charles said the exchange remains one of the unforgettable and happy memories with his dad.
