What to expect at Venice Film Festival 2025

The 82nd Venice International Film Festival promises to be a star studded event which will showcase the familiar glory and glamour of the film world.

Major stars who are expected to walk the Venice Biennale include Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie, Dwayne Johnson, Andrew Garfield, and many more.

Several exciting titles are also scheduled to make their debut at the Italian festival, where Luca Guadagnino will premiere his new film After the Hunt, starring Roberts and Garfield alongside Ayo Edebiri.

While Johnson will attend the ceremony to screen his upcoming movie, the Benny Safdie-directed The Smashing Machine, also starring Emily Blunt.

Jolie on the other hand will return to Venice this year after last year’s successful showcase of the biopic Maria, which was based on the life of the iconic opera singer Maria Callas, and directed by Pablo Larrain.

She is set to attend the premiere of the fashion-based feature, titled Couture, and directed by Alice Winocour.

Looking to make the usual big waves at the festival is the streaming giant Netflix, who will have three of their movies premiere at Venice.

Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly, starring George Clooney, and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, starring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, and Mia Goth, are among Netflix’s offerings to the gala.

Whereas the third title, the Kathryn Bigelow-directed A House of Dynamite, will bring stars like Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Greta Lee, and others to the red carpet in Italy.

Venice Film Festival will commence from August 27 and will run until September 6, as filmmaker Alexander Payne will preside over the ceremony’s jury.
