Major TV shows officially cancelled in 2025
Fan favourite series that likely won't be returning in 2026

Every TV series fan knows and understands the pain of a show getting suddenly cancelled.
Yet in recent years, the rate of fan favourite series getting axed seems to be only accelerating. From long running shows, to new titles, no show feels safe from abrupt cancellations.
Since years many shows have been faced with this unfortunate fate and it seems like the 2025 list, which is already pretty stacked, is only going to grow further.
With many cancellations this year, fans are left questioning why many of their favourite series have been cut short. But the answer isn’t simple, these decisions depend on ratings, business moves, and audience demand.
Being a fan of TV these days isn’t for the faint hearted. Plenty of dramas are not making it further this year, but it doesn't mean they are all victims of cancellations. A few like Stranger Things, and The Summer I Turned Pretty are wrapping up on their own terms, giving fans some closure.
However, despite some shows that might be getting a satisfying ending, there is still a long list of shows that won't make it any further than they already have.
Here is a list of shows that were cancelled:
Motorheads

The 10 episode show released on May 20, 2025 has unfortunately been cancelled by the streamer Amazon Prime Video, which means it will not be getting a second season.
This comes as a surprise as since its premiere, the hit series has ranked among Prime Video’s top 10 most watched titles.
However, not all hope is lost as fans have stormed social media campaigning for Motorhead's return.
Many took to X to share their reactions, with one saying, "I'm confused. How could they cancel such a great show? season 2 had so much potential."
Continuing, "I literally thought I had finally found a show with an interesting and unusual plot. I'm depressed. Please find a new platform for motorheads."
"I NEED MOTORHEADS SEASON 2 NOW," another exclaimed.
Deadline also reported, that according to a source, the producers of the young adult drama have gotten a go ahead from Amazon to search for a new home for the series created by John A. Norris and have already begun discussions with other outlets.
The story follows two siblings who move to Ironwood with their mom to live with their uncle Logan, a former NASCAR mechanic, they step into the world where street racing defines social status.
In this town they bond with people over street racing and the two siblings are entangled in their own love triangles. But not only that, they also find themselves caught up in high school rivalries.
As they go on the mission of self identity they also uncover family secrets which happened to be tied to their father’s mysterious past and his disappearance.
It casts Michael Cimino, Melissa Collazo, Ryan Phillippe and Nathalie Kelley, and more stars.
Frasier 2023

As it turns out, after two whole seasons the reboot will not be returning for a third season, as reported by Variety.
CBS then planned to look for other platforms that would give the series that initially aired in October 2023, another home.
The series, starring and executive produced by Kelsey Grammer, revives the classic Frasier, the spinoff of Cheers, that lasted for 11 seasons from 1993 to 2004.
Although it was produced by CBS Studios, the revival isn’t expected to go to the network as it has already taken on many other comedies like The Neighbourhood, Poppa’s House, and George & Mandy’s First Marriage.
It has also confirmed that a spin-off of The Neighbourhood is in development.
The Recruit

Netflix’s hit series starring Noah Centineo as a CIA lawyer, was also cancelled by the streamer after only two seasons.
The Hollywood Reporter reported on March 05, 2025, the spy drama will not be returning for a third season.
Colton Dunn, who played Lester former CIA operative Lester Kitchens, took to Threads to express his disappointment about this news, saying, "The Recruit' has been cancelled."
Continuing, "Such a bummer. I'll share some pics and fun memories on IG but just wanted you to hear it from me. Thanks if you watched. I'm available now! Hire me for your TV story."
The creator of the fan favourite series, Alexi Hawley, addressed the situation expressing that he hopes the streaming giant will allow them to wrap things up with a movie.
This decision made by Netflix was not taken well by the fans of the series, as many believed that it was intentionally sabotaged.
"Season 2 still performed well, despite a questionably long hiatus & it should have had more than just 6 episodes," a viewer stated.
"It's like Netflix didn't want 'The Recruit' to succeed, and it still did. Another good series cut early for no reason," the same continued.
"Another streaming platform better pick up 'The Recruit', it was such a good show. Someone pick up their slack!" another penned.
SWAT

The series that first released on November 02, 2017 has had a complicated run over the years.
SWAT has officially been cancelled, with its eighth season being its final one.
It seems like this time there is no chance of a renewal, after being saved twice from being axed previously.
Back in May 2023, after its sixth season, SWAT had been abruptly cancelled, leaving many fans shocked. However, it was quickly renewed just days later for its seventh and final season.
But it seems like there was more story to tell as the drama was again renewed for another season, which now happens to be its final season.
The executive producer and showrunner Andrew Dettmann came forward and expressed his disappointment, saying, "It's heartbreaking news, primarily because it's been such an immense pleasure working with this cast and crew to put out a show that we've always been proud of."
"They are truly an extraordinary group of people who have all worked so hard and have been so dedicated for all these eight seasons, overcoming countless challenges. I can't give them enough credit. I feel so privileged to have been a part of the SWAT family," he added.
Cruel Intentions

As reported by Variety, the romance thriller series Cruel Intentions has been cancelled after only its first season.
The series hit the screen of viewers in November 2024 as a TV reimagining of the 1999 film of the same name, which was originally inspired by the novel Dangerous Liaisons.
The Residence

Netflix cancelled another fan favourite series this year. The Residence, which premiered in March of this year was also cancelled after just one season, four months after its debut.
The reason for its abrupt cancellation is believed to be due to its hefty budget.
It reportedly includes what’s said to be the priciest White House set recreation ever built, along with the show’s unlucky timing of its release.
It debuted near the breakout hit Adolescence and is also reportedly considered to be one of the reasons for its cancellation.
