As Apple gears up for its 2025 “Awe Dropping” event today (September 9) at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino at 10am PT, excitement is running high for the rumoured thinnest iPhone ever i.e. , iPhone 17 Air.

But before we look ahead, it’s worth revisiting some of the most interesting and unforgettable moments from previous Apple events that shaped the company’s legacy.

1. Why does Apple always show 9:41am on devices

One of Apple’s most fascinating traditions is the clock time displayed in product images.

For years, iPhones in ads showed 9:42am, the exact time Steve Jobs revealed the first iPhone in 2007.

Later, Apple shifted this to 9:41am to better align with the keynote schedule.

According to former iOS chief Scott Forstall, product unveilings were planned to happen around 40 minutes into the presentation, ensuring the time displayed matched real time almost perfectly.

2. Tim Cook’s first iPhone launch

When Tim Cook took over as CEO, his first Apple event was marked by the iPhone 4S unveiling in 2011.

While fans were initially disappointed it wasn’t the “iPhone 5,” the 4S introduced Siri, Apple’s groundbreaking voice assistant that set the stage for the era of AI-powered smartphones.

3. Drake’s surprise appearance (2015)

Apple events aren’t always about tech, they’ve had their share of celebrity moments.

In 2015, Canadian rapper Drake took the stage to help announce Apple Music. His presence emphasised Apple’s push into the entertainment industry, making that event one of the most memorable crossovers between pop culture and technology.

4. No headphone jack (2016)

In September 2016, Apple launched the iPhone 7 without a headphone jack, calling it a “courageous” decision.

The move sparked controversy, memes, and criticism worldwide. That said, it also paved the way for the wireless future, with AirPods debuting at the same event.
