Meghan Markle’s emotional confession: What makes her ‘the proudest mom’ to Princess Lilibet
Meghan Markle’s touching words about Lilibet will melt your heart
Meghan Markle in a new interview for Town & Country’s 2025 Philanthropy Issue opened up about motherhood, empowerment, and the inspiring story of 15-year-old Avery Colvert, founder of Altadena Girls, a relief group supporting teens affected by the Eaton Canyon Fire.
Here are five highlights from the Duchess of Sussex’s moving exchange.
1. Meghan revealed what would make her “the proudest mom”
During her conversation with Avery, Meghan shared a rare personal reflection about her daughter, Princess Lilibet. “You never thought your work would grow to be this big. And even if it hadn’t, it still would have been meaningful and made an impact." My goodness, if our daughter turns out to be anything like you, I’ll be the proudest mom,” she told the teen founder, praising her compassion and leadership.
2. The Duchess Quietly supported Altadena Girls early on
Previously, Meghan had visited the organization in January, where she bought goods and spent time with families.
The Archewell Foundation, which she co-founded with Prince Harry, also contributed to the cause.
3. Avery Colvert’s viral movement sparked real change
Avery, just 15, started Altadena Girls to help peers rebuild after the devastating California wildfire.
Her campaign to collect clothes, beauty products, and essentials went viral, resulting in over one million items distributed and the opening of a permanent Pasadena community center on October 11, International Day of the Girl.
4. Meghan’s empowering message for young girls
In her own post for International Day of the Girl, Meghan wrote, “To all the girls — this world is yours. Do everything you can to protect your rights, use your voice, support each other. We will do the same for you.”
The heartfelt message was paired with a clip of little Lilibet running freely, her red hair flowing, a tender nod to both her daughter and her mission to uplift girls everywhere.
5. Shared vision for the future
As Avery said during the interview, “When you’re a teenager, everything feels like the biggest thing in the world… this is only the beginning.”
Meghan Markle echoed that sentiment by highlighting the importance of encouraging young leaders who will shape tomorrow.
