Charli XCX gets candid about creative inspiration behind ‘Brat’

Charli XCX recently opened up about her true feelings regarding her highly successful 2024 album Brat.

In a candid conversation with Gwyneth Paltrow on her Goop podcast, the 32-year-old singer shared what was going her mind while creating her hit record.

“I actually made this record being like, ‘OK, I’m just going to do this one for me,’” Charli told Gwyneth.

“Maybe I’m going to get dropped by my label and that’s fine’. That was kind of the headspace that I was in,” the Apple hitmaker continued.

Released on June 7, 2024, Brat topped the UK charts and reached the top 10 in 14 other countries, earning nine Grammy nominations and winning three.

Following its release, Charli’s electronic-pop tracks dominated charts and quickly went viral across social media.

Elsewhere in the discussion, Charli teased that her next album will be “inherently” different from the previous one.

“I really like to work in contrast. I think whatever I do next will just inherently be different to Brat because that’s what feels natural,” the party 4 u singer noted.

Beyond her musical ventures, Charli is also set to star in A Tree Is Blue, the directorial debut feature film of actress Dakota Johnson.

Among others, Charli XCX will star in and co-produce The Moment, an upcoming A24 film featuring Alexander Skarsgård, Rosanna Arquette, and Kylie Jenner.
