Times King Charles rebelled against Royal protocols
King Charles broke many Royal rules over the years
In an institution that has stood for 1200 years, rules aren’t just guidelines, they are woven into its identity.
But as time went on and society began to change, the British royal family began to evolve along with its members.
Many Royal family members have often bent some of the Royal protocols over the years, and King Charles is no exception and has broken some of those rules as well.
Here are some of the times the 77-year-old King showed his rebellious side:
Underage drinking
While studying in Gordonstoun Boarding School in Moray, in the 1960s, the young Prince Charles and his pals enjoyed an evening out at the Crown Hotel before a film at the Stornoway Playhouse.
During their get together, it was reported by Scottish Daily Express, that Charles had been given a dare by his schoolmates to order a drink at the bar.
Unfortunately for the Prince, he was spotted by a tabloid reporter at the pub ordering a cherry brandy for himself. The reporter took that as an opportunity and published the article of Charles drinking under the legal age of 18.
Kissing fans
During his trip to Australia in 1997, the Prince caused a stir and broke protocol when he was given a kiss from a 16-year-old Gilda Larbey.
Public intimacy with late Princess Diana
In the early stages of his marriage to Princess Diana, Prince Charles didn’t shy away from showing affection to his wife publicly even though it was against royal protocol.
First heir to be granted divorce
In 1996, Charles and Diana had officially filed for divorce after 15 years of marriage.
Signed an Autograph
Royals are generally forbidden from signing autographs, mostly to avoid forged signatures.
But Charles ignored this rule while meeting with victims of the Cornwall flash floods in 2010, and signed an autograph for a child on a couple’s request.
Ate Shellfish
One of the major rules that the Royal Family has is to avoid eating shellfish over food-poisoning concerns. However, Charles once again broke that rule during his visit to to the Whitstable Oyster Festival in 2013 where he tried oyster.
