Amid Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s ouster from the royal family, and the final touches on his new name, it has been revealed why the ex-Prince eventually agreed to leave Royal Lodge behind.

While the former Duke of York was previously “dragging his heels” about the matter of vacating his longtime residence, it is being reported that he finally moved on from it to protect the future of his daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

“It was made clear to Andrew that, while his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, would also lose her title, there would be no action taken against their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie,” a report, published by the Daily Mail, disclosed.

The report further claimed that the establishment assured Andrew that his daughters will be offered “new official royal roles” once the process of his removal is settled.

Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth’s former press secretary Ailsa Anderson previously told PEOPLE, “Andrew had been dragging his heels. They had to take constitutional advice and legal advice and over the lease on Royal Lodge.”

While she described King Charles’ delayed decision in the matter as, “It must be mixed emotions for him. That is why this has taken such a long time. It is family and monarchy, and when the lines are blurred, it’s very difficult for them.”

Ever since the announcement that Beatrice and Eugenie will remain Princesses of York, the two sisters have undertaken separate engagements related to Outward Bound and The King’s Foundation respectively. While Andrew’s full name was recently confirmed to carry the hyphenated version of the royal family name, Mountbatten-Windsor.
