Kate’s ‘big call’, King’s ‘hindsight’, and more: What ‘The Windsor Legacy’ reveals about the royals

Robert Jobson, British journalist and author, has set the royal world on fire with the recently published bombshell account, The Windsor Legacy: A Royal Dynasty of Secrets, Scandal and Survival.

While the book’s initial release was this month, its hardcover will be launched on January 6, 2026.

In the biographical account of the House of Windsor, Jobson has articulated admissions from “the British monarchy’s resilience and influence over the past century, looking at its key players and conflicts, with a forward-looking examination of its future,” per Amazon’s description.

From the biggest takeaways to lower ranking gossip, here are the major anecdotes you can expect from Jobson’s text:

William and Kate’s joint decision for Prince George’s future

Following Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis, and subsequently brief departure from public life, her eldest son had sought to live at a boarding school, likely to cope with the difficult time.

“Once she was given the all-clear, William and Catherine made a big call for Prince George’s future. At twelve, he is growing up fast and, at his own request, became a weekly boarder at Lambrook School,” Jobson wrote in the book.

Queen Elizabeth’s verdict on Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor

Though King Charles recently stripped his younger brother Andrew of his royal titles and honours in an unprecedented move, the decision would have proved impossible during Queen Elizabeth’s lifetime.

“Andrew’s royal life was over, though he would not retreat quietly. The Queen stood by him, loyal to the end, even having him escort her at Westminster Abbey for the memorial service for Prince Philip in March 2022, a rare public moment for the prince,” Jobson claimed in his book. It was further added that the late monarch also kept her second son close during “her final days”, “shielding him as palace insiders continued to push for his total exile.”

How the King’s ignorance ‘deepened the rift’ between his sons

According to The Windsor Legacy, King Charles ignored his two sons’ feud until it was too late. Jobson shared that the sovereign’s “hands-off approach only deepened the rift”.

“William, worried, yet estranged from Harry, felt unable to approach his brother to defuse the crisis. Charles may well have wanted to intervene and knock some sense into his two sons, but he chose to stay out of their escalating quarrels,” the book added.

When Queen Camilla was targeted in a jewellery heist

The book also reveals that Queen Camilla was targeted by a lone jewel thief about three years ago.

“It wasn’t quite the heist of the century — but close. Incredibly, no one has breathed a word, until now, about how a daring thief managed to snaffle a bag of Queen Camilla’s jewellery,” Jobson disclosed. The robbery had taken place while Camilla was still the Duchess of Cornwall.

Meghan Markle’s drew an ‘incensed’ reaction from the Queen

Apparently, Meghan Markle naming her daughter Lilibet was not a decision that was welcomed by Queen Elizabeth — whom the princess was named after.

Though sources close to the Duchess of Sussex had refuted the early reports based on similar claims, Jobson provides a different outlook in his book — “A Palace source has a different version of events, which is that the Queen first learned of Lilibet’s name from the morning press, and was so incensed at the affront that she threw the paper to the floor, startling her staff,” he revealed in The Windsor Legacy
