Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong hosted billionaire Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, in Seoul this week.

The visit focused on exploring expanded cooperation between the two groups in next-generation technologies.

According to the Financial Times, Ambani visited Samsung’s headquarters in Seoul, where he viewed new devices, including an augmented-reality headset and advanced display panels.

“We expect to strengthen our co-operation with Reliance in supplying 6G network equipment, building AI data centres and providing [energy storage system] batteries for stable energy supply of data centres,” Samsung said.

The meeting is part of a series of high-profile engagements by Lee as Samsung works to secure its position in the fast-growing global AI sector.

Reliance, India’s largest corporation, is expanding in IT sector and has recently launched a unit focused on AI infrastructure and data center development in partnership with Alphabet and Meta.

Samsung already has a strong presence in India, where it manufactures smartphones and appliances and supplies network equipment.

Moreover, Samsung and Reliance have maintained close business ties for more than a decade. Samsung built Reliance Jio’s 4G network in 2012 and later signed a contract to supply 5G equipment in 2022.
