Tesla’s Elon Musk unveils ambitious predictions for next era of Robotaxis
Elon Musk is doubling down on his vision for Robotaxis
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has renewed his push for a large-scale rollout of Robotaxis, noting that the next phase of the service could dramatically reshape the company’s future valuation.
The comments come as Tesla gradually expands its Robotaxi fleet, which debuted in Austin earlier this year with human safety monitors still required on board.
Supporters like Cathie Wood have argued that Robotaxis could unlock trillions in long-term value, even as public skepticism toward autonomous vehicles persists.
However, surveys show that most Americans consider full self-driving technology unsafe, but Tesla continues to ramp up deployment.
The company recently grew its Austin fleet to 29 vehicles and secured approval to operate in Arizona.
Musk has now teased that the Tesla Robotaxi fleet in Austin will “roughly double” next month, calling it a major step toward nationwide expansion.
That said, earlier promises of rapid autonomous scaling have been tempered by stricter regulatory hurdles and Musk’s own warnings about maintaining extreme caution during deployment.
Still, Musk insists that Tesla is closer than ever to a breakthrough.
“I think we will probably have autonomous ride-hailing in probably half the population of the US by the end of the year,” Musk noted during the opening remarks of the call.
“Assuming we have regulatory approvals, it’s probably addressing half the population of the US by the end of the year,” he stated.
