Cara Buono, who plays Karen Wheeler (the onscreen mother of Mike, Nancy and Holly), has opened up about Stranger Things recasting her youngest on-screen daughter, who was aged up for the show’s fifth and final season.

Talking to Us Weekly, the 54-year-old actress shared how the Netflix’s hit sci-fi horror series had made Holly Wheeler (Nell Fisher) the main focus leading up to the finale, set to release on December 31.

"In season 1, Holly is four years old and she’s in Joyce’s house. The Demogorgon reaches out and the lights go crazy as he starts to reach through the wall. So I love how that was set up from the beginning," she explained.

The Hulk actress also emphasised that the entire cast is "growing" up in front of the camera, saying, "I watched all the kids grow up in the last 10 years. So we got some new kids on the set and I loved working with Nell. I love spending time with her.”

“Nell is incredibly talented and has an incredible work ethic. She’s very smart and we just stepped right into it," Cara gushed.

Continuing, "I know that the audience has to suspend belief, in a sense, that suddenly Holly went from age six to 12. But that is part of the Stranger Things world."

From season 1 to season 4, Anniston Price and Tinsley Price had taken on the role of a young Holly before being replaced in season 5, which will be releasing in three parts, with the first one already premiered on the streaming giant on November 26, followed by the second part on December 25 and finale on December 31.
