Such disorders are a group of complex and chronic conditions where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells.
From Selena Gomez to Ashton Kutcher; these celebrities are battling or have battled autoimmune disorders; let’s have a look:
Nick Jonas
Jonas was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was 13.
“I remember I told my parents that I needed to go to the doctor, something didn’t feel right and they had already seen the significant weight loss and some of the other symptoms so they brought me in,” the Leave Before You Love Me crooner explained in an interview with an organization he co-founded called Beyond Type 1, adding, “It was there that my pediatrician informed me that I had type 1 diabetes.”
According to the husband of Priyanka Jonas Chopra, he was devastated at first naturally and it was the start to a crazy new journey.”
Selena Gomez
The Love You Like A Love Song hitmaker was diagnosed with lupus in 2013.
During a 2015 conversation with Billboard, Gomez revealed, “I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my [tour] break was really about … I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”
In 2017, the singer, who recently got married to Benny Blanco, underwent a kidney transplant due to complications from the autoimmune disease.
Halsey
The Is There Somewhere hitmaker in June 2024, detailed her secret health struggles in a video posted on her Instagram post.
Though, the The End songstress hasn’t confirmed what health battles she’s undergoing, it’s being speculated that it is systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) as she was seen saying that she would send proceeds to both The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as well as the Lupus Research Alliance, according to People.
Ashton Kutcher
The No Strings Attached actor has a rare autoimmune disease called vasculitis, which caused him to lose his vision, hearing, and equilibrium.
The illness involves inflammation of the blood vessels and took him about a year to recover from.
However, Kutcher revealed he is now "fully recovered" from the experience.
