Princess Beatrice stepped out for her daughter Athena Elizabeth Rose’s christening at St James’s Palace on December 12, an occasion where she was also joined by her parents, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson.

However, the absence of major royal family members have sparked further scrutiny into the Firm’s relations with the former Duke and Duchess of York.

The Daily Mail has reported that King Charles and Princess Anne skipped the ceremony despite receiving invitations.

Ahead of the christening, a source had told the publication, “It’s going to be a royal occasion but everyone is dreading the thought of seeing Andrew there.”

While the Princess of York was said to have invited her father specifically because “she’s worried about him.”

“He’s going through a low ebb with his mental health and she recognises that he dotes on his grandchildren and it would be cruel to deprive him of the chance to attend the christening,” it was added.

Princess Beatrice had welcomed her daughter with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, their second child together, in January 2025. The couple are also parents to Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, who was born in 2021.
