Elon Musk reportedly plans active role in GOP’s 2026 midterm campaigns

Ahead of the GOP’s 2026 midterm elections in the US, Elon Musk has reportedly begun financially supporting Republican campaigns for both the House and Senate, marking a notable escalation of his political involvement.
According to Axios, the tech billionaire has already started donating to key races and plans to remain active throughout the entire election cycle.
The move suggests a shift in Musk’s previously strained relationship with Donald Trump, following a public fallout earlier this year.
Axios reported that Musk has contributed large sums to help the Republican Party defend its congressional majority, with exact figures expected to be disclosed when campaign finance filings are released in January.
For those unversed, midterm elections will take place on November 3, 2026, with all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 33 Senate seats up for election.
Historically, the ruling party often loses ground during midterms, raising the stakes for Republican strategists seeking to retain control of Congress.
Musk’s renewed political engagement comes after a highly publicised war of words with Trump in June, when the Tesla CEO criticised federal spending, tariff policies and warned of economic risks.
Meanwhile, Trump questioned Musk’s reliability and even floated the idea of canceling government contracts with his companies, including SpaceX.
