While artificial intelligence (AI) continues to appear in more consumer devices, it is not always by choice.

The recent example involves LG smart TVs, where users are reporting the arrival of Microsoft Copilot as a built-in app that cannot be removed.

According to a report highlighted by Tom’s Hardware, several LG TV owners have taken to Reddit to express frustration after noticing the Copilot app added to their home screens.

The complaints have suggested that the app appeared following a recent update to webOS, LG’s Linux-based operating system.

Once the update was installed, Copilot reportedly began launching as part of the default interface.

However, what has annoyed users most is the lack of control. The Copilot app seems to be treated as a system-level feature, meaning it sits alongside popular streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu but cannot be deleted or hidden.

LG’s own documentation supports this, stating that preinstalled or system apps cannot be removed from its smart TVs.

Notably, LG has previously made its intentions clear around AI integration. At CES 2025, the tech giant branded itself as an “AI TV” leader, unveiling a dedicated AI section within webOS.

That said, LG is not alone in pushing AI onto televisions. Google’s Gemini is now built into select TCL models, while Samsung is reportedly preparing to introduce Perplexity’s search technology.
