Timothée Chalamet emerged as one of this year’s most original visionaries by doing nothing entirely new and finding success in reinvention.

The actor, who celebrates his 30th birthday today, remained in the spotlight for the better part of 2025 thanks to the good old trick of movie marketing, which he reinvented to make entirely his own.

While the other part of the year, the earlier one, Chalamet spent as the unwavering voice of an artist who is not afraid to flaunt his desire to do great — starting with his SAG speech.

When the 30-year-old star won his first Screen Actors Guild Award back in February, he delivered a rousing speech, name-dropping multiple personalities he looks up to and wishes to emulate in his growth as a professional.

“I know we’re in a subjective business, but the truth is, I’m really in pursuit of greatness,” he had said in his address as the best actor winner during the evening, noting names like Michael Jordan, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Viola Davis.

While Chalamet declared that his victory was like “a little more fuel” for him to keep striving for further success, the same fuel ignited a fire of speculation through the many corners of various public domains.

Industry experts, media, and fans alike wondered — is Timothée Chalamet flying too close to the sun?

The two-time Academy Award nominee’s second loss at the Oscars this year, when he was pitted as one of the absolute favourites alongside the eventual winner Adrien Brody, did nothing to slow him down.

In fact, Chalamet’s loss became an apparent catalyst for him to launch into a new era altogether — the one tied to his latest release, Marty Supreme.

While winning over some with his eccentric promotional tactics for the A24 film, Chalamet lost some along the way by appearing as too cocky by certain standards.

Whether Timothée Chalamet is entitled to his newfound attitude or not, or if it is merely a facet of his larger-than-life marketing, only time will tell. However, his critics and fans alike can go through the poignant accomplishments — presented without commentary — which he has achieved before his latest milestone birthday, to perhaps evaluate where exactly it comes from.

Box office success

In 2024, Chalamet became the first actor since John Travolta in the ‘70s to lead two box office successes within eight months of each other’s release.

Like Travolta with Saturday Night Fever (1977) and Grease (1978), the American-French actor achieved the feat with Wonka (2023) and Dune: Part Two (2024).

Oscars recognition

Chalamet became the first young actor since James Dean to score multiple Academy Award nominations before turning 30 following his nod for his performance as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.

While Dean was nominated three times before and after his untimely death at the age of 24 in 1955, Chalamet received his second Oscar nomination at the age of 29, with his first arriving for Call Me by Your Name when he was 22.

First person atop the Sphere

Aside from his traditional achievements, Chalamet further added an unconventional title to his name this year — becoming the first person to reach the top of the Sphere in Las Vegas.

A music and entertainment venue, the Sphere often transforms to display various images and fonts on its surface, and Chalamet’s Marty Supreme promotion was the first time someone had scaled the monument.
