Apple is reportedly developing its own artificial intelligence (AI)-powered wearable device, signaling growing competition in the emerging AI hardware market.

According to a report published by The Information, the product would take the form of a pin that users attach to their clothing.

The device is described as a thin, circular disc made of aluminum and glass, with engineers aiming to keep it roughly the same size as an AirTag, though slightly thicker.

The report noted that the wearable would feature two cameras—one standard and one wide-angle—along with three microphones, a speaker, a physical control button, and a charging strip similar to those used in fitness trackers.

If released, the pin would represent Apple’s entry into a fast-evolving category that has drawn attention from rivals such as OpenAI.

Earlier this week, OpenAI’s chief global affairs officer Chris Lehane told attendees at the World Economic Forum in Davos that the company expects to announce its first AI hardware product in the second half of this year.

The Cupertino-based tech giant is reportedly considering accelerating development of its wearable to stay competitive, with a potential launch as early as 2027 and an ambitious target of 20 million units at debut.

Still, consumer appetite for AI wearables remains uncertain. A similar product from Humane AI, founded by former Apple employees, struggled after launch and was ultimately shut down, with its assets later sold to HP.
