Why Kate admitted Prince William’s high-speed hobby filled her with 'horror'
William’s 180mph Ducati days are a thing of the past as he focuses on his royal duties and family
Prince William, now 43, was once a dedicated petrolhead whose love for high-speed motorbikes famously "filled her with horror," according to his wife, Kate.
The Prince of Wales passed his test at 19 and was frequently seen arriving at polo matches on powerful machines like the Ducati 1198s, which can reach speeds of 180mph.
He even shared this adrenaline-fuelled passion with Prince Harry during a 1,000-mile charity trek across South Africa in 2008. However, the arrival of his three children eventually prompted a change of heart.
During a 2015 trip to Dundee, the Princess of Wales admitted, "It always fills me with horror when he goes out on it. I'm terrified. Hopefully, I'm going to keep George off it."
By 2018, William confirmed he had finally hung up his helmet, explaining: "I'm a dad of three. I have to tone it down. I miss the big trips, for me, biking was always about being with everybody else."
In recent years, the future King swapped his Ducati for a more modest e-scooter to zip between meetings at Windsor Castle.
He even told actor Eugene Levy that it was a "fun" way to ensure he remained on time.
However, even royalty must follow the rules; a new ban on motorised transport in Windsor Great Park means the e-scooter has been retired.
An insider noted that William is "more than happy" to adhere to the park's strict regulations, marking the end of his motorised two-wheeled era.
