Tributes have been paid to the late filmmaker Rob Reiner on what would have been his 79th birthday, nearly three months after the tragic deaths of the director and his wife, Michele Singer.

Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner’s 1978 classic The Princess Bride, honoured his longtime friend on Friday with a poignant social media post.

Sharing a vintage photograph, Elwes wrote: “Today would have been your 79th birthday. Still hard to believe you’re gone. Missing you so much.”

The industry remains in shock following the discovery of the couple’s bodies at their Brentwood home on 14 December.

Their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was arrested by the LAPD just hours after the discovery. Last month, he entered a plea of not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder.

The younger Reiner, who has a documented history of addiction and mental health struggles, now faces a preliminary hearing scheduled for 29 April.

L.A. County District Attorney Nathan Hochman has pursued "special circumstances" charges, meaning the defendant could face life imprisonment or the death penalty.

In a statement issued in January, Hochman expressed confidence in the prosecution, declaring that Nick will be found guilty “beyond a reasonable doubt” by a Los Angeles jury.

As the legal proceedings continue, the Hollywood community continues to mourn the loss of an Oscar-nominated visionary. Reiner’s legacy as a creator of beloved cinema remains untarnished, even as his family endures this devastating public tragedy.
