Nintendo reduces Switch 2 production due to decline in console sales
Nintendo plans to manufacture fewer Switch 2 units due to declining US demand
Nintendo plans to produce fewer Switch 2 consoles than originally anticipated due to decreasing demand in the United States, according to Bloomberg reports.
Instead of the six million contemplated, Nintendo will manufacture four million units of its leading console this coming quarter, with the decrease projected to continue into April, as reported by anonymous sources mentioned by the publication.
Last month, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa stated during an earnings call that “international sales were somewhat less than forecasted.”
This decline comes after a record-setting launch in June the previous year, making the Switch 2 Nintendo’s quickest-selling console ever, with sales hitting 3.5 million units in just the first four days.
Despite the production reduction, it is anticipated not to affect Nintendo’s ability to meet its aim of selling 19 million Switch 2 units by the close of the fiscal year in March, as per Bloomberg’s insider information.
The Japanese gaming behemoth remains positive about the console's long-term prospects.
In line with various tech companies, Nintendo is confronting elevated costs of production attributed to rising memory prices, and may consider elevating prices of the Switch 2 console, though the cutback in production is due to diminishing consumer demand.
Export delays stemming from the Middle Eastern conflict might prompt Nintendo to augment Switch 2 production again, per Bloomberg’s insiders, with the company aiming to accumulate enough stock of a battery-replaceable version planned for sale in Europe in the subsequent fiscal year.
