Savannah Guthrie is sharing the chilling moment when she first learned her mother, Nancy Guthrie, was unaccounted for.

On Thursday (March 26), part one of Savannah's two-segment Today chat with Hoda Kotb was broadcast.

It commenced with Savannah describing her actions on February 1, the day Nancy’s relatives realised she was missing.

Savannah recounted that her spouse, Mike Feldman, was away for a tennis event, and she took their two children to her coworker, Carson Daly's home.

They returned simultaneously with Feldman, and that's when her sister, Annie Guthrie, called.

"My sibling reached out and I asked, ‘Is everything alright?’ And she replied, ‘No, Mom’s gone,’" Savannah shared. "I asked, ‘What do you mean?’ She clarified, ‘She’s disappeared.’"

Savannah described her sister as "frantic," and mentioned she felt similarly. She added that the family initially thought Nancy had encountered a health issue and was in a nearby hospital.

"We suspected she might have experienced a health crisis during the night, and perhaps the paramedics had arrived since the back doors were ajar which seemed odd," Savannah recalled.

"We assumed maybe it involved a stretcher being used to take her out, but her phone and handbag were still there, adding to the confusion."

The family started calling various area hospitals, desperately hoping to find their mother amidst what Savannah described as "chaos and disbelief."

"Right from the start, Annie and Tommy insisted, ‘This isn’t an ordinary case of someone wandering off. She simply couldn’t," Savannah noted about her sister and brother-in-law.

"My mom struggled with severe pain, mostly unable to walk further than the mailbox. There was no way she wandered off. More concerning was the open doors, blood by the entrance, and the torn-off Ring camera, prompting us to say, ‘This isn’t okay. Something’s very wrong here.’"

Savannah indicated it was her brother, Camron Guthrie, who first considered an abduction scenario.

"He’s had a career in the military, worked in intelligence, is a skilled pilot, and is quite astute, recognising the situation immediately," Savannah explained. "During our phone call, he hypothesised, ‘I believe she’s been taken for ransom.’"

This was Guthrie’s first discussion since her mom Nancy was reported missing on February 1.

The next segment of the dialogue between the Today presenter, 54, and Kotb is scheduled for Friday (March 27).
