Hormones regulate essential physiological processes, including metabolism, growth, and reproductive health. Dr Rohan Palshetkar, a consultant IVF specialist, highlighted that subtle, "silent" signs often precede full-blown hormonal disorders.

Overlooking these indicators increases the risk of developing serious complications. Dr Palshetkar remarked, “Every bodily function, including sleep, mood, metabolism, and fertility, is influenced by hormones.”

The specialist identified eight specific signs to monitor:

  1. Perpetual tiredness: Constant exhaustion despite rest may involve cortisol or thyroid issues.
  2. Weight fluctuations: Inexplicable changes, especially abdominal, can stem from insulin resistance.
  3. Insufficient sleep: Struggles with falling asleep or waking up relate to melatonin and cortisol.
  4. Mood changes: Irritability or anxiety often links to menstrual cycles or menopause.
  5. Skin and hair: Acne, scalp thinning, or excess facial hair suggest androgen imbalances.
  6. Irregular periods: Skipped cycles or excessive bleeding can indicate PCOS or perimenopause.
  7. Low libido: Decreased drive or intimacy pain suggests dropping estrogen or testosterone.
  8. Brain fog: Lack of focus and forgetfulness often signals thyroid or reproductive system issues.

When to consult a specialist

Dr Palshetkar urged individuals to take these symptoms seriously if they persist for longer than two weeks or disrupt daily functioning.

He explained, “Hormonal changes can be due to menstrual cycles, thyroid changes, or menopause,” making professional evaluation necessary.

Seeking help from an endocrinologist or reproductive health specialist involves a physical examination and key hormonal tests. While stress can cause similar issues, clinical confirmation is vital to rule out more complex health complications.
