Milly Alcock discusses Supergirl debut and franchise pressures

Milly Alcock is preparing for her highly anticipated solo debut as Kara Zor-El, bringing a uniquely independent perspective to the iconic role.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair published on Wednesday, the 25-year-old actress explained why she chose not to seek advice from previous Supergirl performers Melissa Benoist or Sasha Calle.

"They’re just people living their lives," Alcock remarked, dismissing the idea of an automatic connection between actors sharing a role.

"It’s not like we have this blood bond." This boundary extends to her other high-profile collaborators; despite starring alongside Oscar winner Julianne Moore in the 2025 Netflix series Sirens, Alcock refrained from asking for professional guidance.

"You have to respect that they don’t owe you that," she noted, emphasising her desire to find her own footing in the industry.

Alcock’s experience playing Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon has equipped her for the intense scrutiny of the DCU fandom.

"It definitely made me aware that simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on," she observed, addressing the "weird ownership" the public often feels toward women's bodies.

The latest trailer for the film, released on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, has already generated significant buzz by featuring a new look at Jason Momoa’s portrayal of the antihero Lobo.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, the cosmic adventure follows Kara’s journey across the stars to help a young girl seek revenge. Supergirl is scheduled to premiere in theatres and IMAX on 26 June 2026, marking a bold new chapter for DC Studios.
