Man kills missing girlfriend after she threatened to expose crimes
Aaron Hokanson is charged with first-degree murder in connection to death of Martina Lundy
Officials in Florida have accused a man of allegedly murdering his girlfriend nearly two years ago and disposing of her body — which remains missing — after she threatened to report him for viewing child sexual assault content, according to police.
Aaron Hokanson, age 60, is charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of 61-year-old Martina Lundy.
As noted in an arrest affidavit, Lundy's granddaughter informed the Columbia County Sheriff's Office of her disappearance on June 4, 2024, after several days of no contact.
Lundy and Hokanson shared a residence on SW Carpenter Road in Lake City. They were in a relationship for about two years, but tensions rose in the months leading to the alleged murder when Lundy began questioning Hokanson's sexual orientation, the police revealed.
The duo traveled to the Florida Keys in March 2024, where Lundy suggested Hokanson visit a gay bar. Hokanson declined, insisting he was not gay.
Just days before her disappearance, Lundy confided in her brother that she had recorded Hokanson confessing to watching child sexual images "at least 100 times," according to the affidavit.
Hokanson allegedly disclosed he was abused by his mother's partner when he was a child.
"Lundy mentioned that this did not justify his viewing of child porn," the police reported. "She told Hokanson he would never be allowed near children and that she would inform his daughter."
She later warned him that he would be "arrested by the end of the week." Hokanson reportedly destroyed his phone and laptop and cleared his search history, police stated.
Authorities suspect Hokanson killed Lundy early on May 30, 2024. The last known contact with her was a voicemail to her daughter at 2:23am, where Lundy can be heard confronting Hokanson over his sexual orientation.
At 7:22am, records show his vehicle was started, according to police.
Lundy and her granddaughter were planning to attend a wedding that weekend, and the granddaughter visited the Carpenter Road house on May 31, 2024, to get a dress, police noted.
Lundy was nowhere to be found. Hokanson claimed she left the day before, upset over a late-night call from her daughter, the complaint states.
Lundy's absence, especially without her phone, was unusual, according to her family. She hasn't been seen or heard from since.
"She's not returning," stated Assistant State Attorney Sean Crisafulli to local ABC affiliate WCJB. "Martina Lundy did not abandon her daughter, or her granddaughter whom she raised as her own. She didn’t leave behind the two dogs that accompanied her everywhere. Nor did she neglect the tenants for whom she reliably collected rent until this all transpired."
Authorities also highlight the $73,000 in cash stored in a bank deposit box as further evidence of her demise.
He also misled family members following her disappearance, falsely claiming he had filed a missing person report when he actually had not, according to authorities.
Originally charged with second-degree murder the previous week, Hokanson was indicted for first-degree murder on Tuesday.
He is held at the Columbia County Jail with no option for bond.
