Meghan Trainor has revealed she was reduced to tears by online criticism following the birth of her third child via surrogacy, describing the experience as emotionally overwhelming.

The 32-year-old singer and her husband, actor Daryl Sabara, welcomed their daughter Mikey Moon in January with the help of a surrogate.

Trainor later shared that she anticipated backlash online, particularly amid ongoing public scrutiny surrounding her personal life and physical transformation in recent years.

Appearing on the Not Gonna Lie podcast, Trainor said she avoided reading comments but was still deeply affected by the wave of criticism she expected to receive.

“I didn’t look at the comments,” she said. “I knew fully—because it was after all the hate I was already getting for changing, just for looking different because I took care of myself—so I was like, ‘Oh, they hate me now. They ain’t going to like this.’ And it was a cloud of tears every night of just worry.”

She added that much of her emotional response came from concerns about how her daughter might one day perceive the circumstances of her birth in a judgmental online environment.

“I want my daughter to come to this world and not everyone attack her for the way she got here,” she said, noting that she relied heavily on support from her family and therapist during the period.

Trainor also shared that the decision to use a surrogate came after significant health concerns, explaining that she had been experiencing complications that raised fears of developing an autoimmune condition.

“There’s so many conversations back and forth,” she said. “Then we were like, the safest way is to do it through a surrogate.”

The singer and Sabara, who married in 2018, announced the arrival of their daughter in a January social media post, describing their gratitude toward their surrogate and expressing joy at expanding their family.

The couple also shares two sons, Riley and Barry, and have frequently spoken about their family life in interviews and on social media.
