Anne Hathaway accuses Meryl Streep of taking her famous cerulean sweater
Hathaway and Streep return in 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' on May 1
Anne Hathaway is staying updated.
The Oscar-winning actress, 43, humorously addressed her Devil Wears Prada co-star during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, when the famous host commented on how Meryl Streep was recently featured on the show to talk about the much-anticipated sequel.
"Yes, she took my sweater!" exclaimed Hathaway, humorously cutting off Stephen Colbert.
"Indeed, she took your sweater," he affirmed, joining in on the joke with a grin.
"That's where it disappeared to!" she laughed, eliciting more laughter from the live audience during the episode aired on Wednesday (April 15).
Hathaway was alluding to the iconic cerulean sweater that her Devil Wears Prada character, Andy Sachs, dons in the original film that premiered 20 years prior.
Streep wore a blue sweater closely resembling the one from the movie while appearing on Colbert's show on April 1.
The sweater Streep showcased on the program was a custom piece designed by Olympia Gayot for J.Crew, in conjunction with the actress' stylist Micaela Erlanger. "Meryl transforms everything into an icon. We just ensured this cerulean met that standard," Gayot stated in a release.
The blue sweater immediately invoked memories of the film's unforgettable scene where Streep's cold fashion editor character, Miranda Priestly, delivers a scathing monologue to Hathaway's Andy, explaining that the sweater she's wearing isn't simply blue — it's cerulean.
Streep hasn't been the only celebrity to sport that particular hue lately.
On Sunday (March 31), Hathaway was spotted on stylist Ashley Afriyie's Instagram Stories wearing a white hoodie featuring a large blue Pantone square of that color with "ceruleo" (the Italian term for cerulean) written underneath .
These nostalgic moments occur as anticipation builds for The Devil Wears Prada 2.
When Colbert asked Hathaway during her recent appearance on the show what it felt like to reunite with the cast for the sequel, she eagerly shared her delight at being involved again two decades later.
"It's extremely enjoyable. It's truly wonderful," she said. "The experience felt unique when we were creating it, and I had a feeling the audience would adore the film... This 20-year connection with the movie started from making it and now extends to sharing it with the world."
Many of the original cast members will reprise their roles in the sequel, bringing their iconic characters back to life in the transformed high-fashion journalism world years later, including Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt alongside Streep and Hathaway.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 will be available in theaters starting May 1.
