Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock has issued a call for Hollywood to "lean into" artificial intelligence, suggesting the film industry must adapt to stay relevant.

Speaking at the CNBC Changemakers Summit, the sixty-one-year-old actress addressed the rise of technology after fans created viral, AI-generated trailers for her upcoming sequel, Practical Magic 2.

While acknowledging the potential risks of the medium, the star maintained a pragmatic and optimistic stance regarding its inevitable role in modern cinema.

"But it’s here. We have to observe it. We have to understand it. We have to lean into it," Bullock told the audience. She emphasised that rather than resisting change, creators should "use it in a really constructive and creative way, make it our friend."

However, she did not ignore the ethical dilemmas posed by deepfakes and digital manipulation. "We have to be incredibly cautious and aware of it because there are people who will use it for evil and not good. I do feel that there’s a place for it," she noted.

Warner Bros. Motion Pictures Co-Chair Pam Abdy echoed these sentiments, suggesting that while the fan-made trailers were "not great," they demonstrated a clear "desire" for the franchise.

Bullock is currently focused on promoting the highly anticipated Practical Magic 2 alongside co-star Nicole Kidman, which is scheduled for cinematic release on 18 September 2026.

The veteran performer, who first found major success in the 1990s, continues to lead high-profile projects while exploring the intersection of traditional acting and evolving digital landscapes.
