All you need to know about Justin Bieber's parents: Pattie Mallette and Jeremy Bieber

Justin Bieber's parents, Jeremy Bieber and Pattie Mallette, were both teenagers when they welcomed him into the world in March 1994.

The couple parted ways shortly after Justin's birth. While Pattie has only Justin as her son, Jeremy expanded his family with four more children: Jazmyn, Allie, Bay, and Jaxon.

Fast forward to decades later, Justin stepped into a new part of his life. In the summer of 2024, he and his wife, Hailey Bieber, welcomed their son, Jack Blues Bieber — marking a new chapter as Jeremy and Pattie became grandparents.

In April 2026, the “Yukon” artist honored his beginnings on one of music’s grandest stages. 

During his headlining performance at Coachella, Justin gave a loving nod to his parents while performing “EVERYTHING HALLELUJAH,” singing, “Mom and dad, hallelujah.”

Pattie, Justin's mom, born in 1975 in Ontario, became a mother to Justin at 18. Jeremy wasn't very involved in Justin's early childhood; Justin mainly lived with Pattie, who told The New York Times she worked various office jobs that didn't pay much to make ends meet.

“I didn't grow up with a lot of money,” Justin shared with the publication in December 2009. “We never owned a house. I'd love to buy my mom a house.”

According to Billboard, Pattie saw Justin's potential early on, entering him in various talent contests and sharing his performances on YouTube, which eventually led to his discovery.

Pattie has been a constant presence in her son's career journey, from Justin's initial trips to Atlanta to meet his manager Scooter Braun to signing his first record deal.

She was featured in Justin's 2011 documentary Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, which documented his rise to fame.

"Watching him evolve is thrilling," Pattie told MTV News in 2013. "It’s been a wild ride, and I'm just here to support him through it."

Born in 1975 in Ontario, Jeremy Bieber shares son Justin with his ex Pattie and is father to four other children: daughter Jazmyn and son Jaxon with ex Erin Wagner, and daughter Bay with his wife Chelsey Rebelo. Jeremy is also a father to Chelsey's daughter Allie from a prior relationship.

Although there have been ups and downs in Justin's relationship with his dad, they maintain a close connection. 

In November 2015, Justin told Billboard that his father "wasn’t in a condition to raise a child" when he was younger.

"He was still growing up. He left when I was around 4, moved to British Columbia, came back during Father's Day," Justin remembered. "My mom told him, 'If you want to stay, you need to be all in.' People think of him as a deadbeat dad, but he’s always been there. I spent weekends and Wednesdays with him."

However, by February 2016, Justin told GQ that he felt "closer to my dad than to my mom" at that point.

The "Peaches" singer feels "privileged" to be Jeremy's son and shared his admiration for his dad in 2022 on Father's Day. 

"Love you, dad!" he shared in a throwback photo message. "Happy Father’s Day! We have so much to look forward to. The best is yet to come! Proud to be your son."

Justin celebrated his father's upcoming wedding with an engagement party in Toronto later that year. Reports suggest Justin performed and played piano at the private gathering. He also acted as a groomsman for Jeremy and Chelsey's wedding in 2018.

Chelsey shares Justin's passion for the Toronto Maple Leafs and often posts photos of herself at games with Jeremy attire in the team’s colours.

Despite Pattie’s support of Justin's career, they experienced estrangement for about two years. In November 2015, the singer described their relationship to Billboard as "virtually nonexistent."

In January 2018, the mother and son reconnected for a vacation, and Pattie shared a photo of their affectionate hug with a heartfelt message.

"I'm immensely proud of the wonderful young man you are, and who you’re becoming," she expressed. "Your character and integrity are commendable. You are growing beautifully and wiser beyond your years."

Pattie appears to share a strong connection with Hailey, Justin's wife, whom he married in September 2018. The day after Justin and Hailey’s secret marriage, Pattie celebrated with a tweet, “Love never fails.”

Pattie and Jeremy stepped into grandparent roles after Justin and Hailey celebrated the arrival of their firstborn, Jack Blues Bieber.
