‘Chucky’ franchise set for big-screen comeback, Don Mancini confirms new project
The franchise creator is also developing a separate horror project and TV series
Don Mancini has confirmed that a new Chucky film is officially in development, marking the return of one of horror’s most iconic characters to the big screen.
The writer, who created the franchise with 1988’s Child's Play, revealed the news during an appearance at Pennsylvania’s Steel City Con, according to reports from Bloody Disgusting.
“I’m writing a new Chucky movie,” Mancini said, adding that he is also developing additional projects beyond the franchise, including a separate horror film and a new television series.
He also confirmed that he intends to direct the upcoming Chucky installment himself, with plans to return the series to a darker tone reminiscent of its early entries.
The new film is expected to receive a theatrical release, which would mark the character’s first return to cinemas in more than two decades. The last two installments in the main film series were released directly to video.
While plot details remain under wraps, the project is already generating attention among fans following years of television expansion and franchise evolution.
Mancini also revealed he is working on a separate TV project involving Jennifer Tilly, who has long been associated with the franchise as Tiffany Valentine, a key character in the Chucky universe.
Tilly has previously hinted that her character will return in future projects, and told Entertainment Tonight that “there is more Chucky and Tiffany in the works.”
The Chucky franchise, which has spanned films and television over nearly four decades, most recently concluded its TV run after three seasons, following the cancellation of the Syfy series in 2024.
Despite the setback, Mancini has remained active in expanding the universe and previously expressed gratitude for fan support during the #RenewChucky campaign.
