  • Anne Hathaway is prioritising The Princess Diaries 3 after completing other major projects
  • The actress is currently working with collaborators to refine the film's upcoming script
  • Adele Lim is expected to direct the third instalment for the Disney franchise

Anne Hathaway has expressed her firm commitment to reprising her role as Mia Thermopolis, confirming that her creative team is "constantly working on" developing The Princess Diaries 3.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Oscar-winning actress revealed her "100%" intention to return to the fictional kingdom of Genovia.

Hathaway explained that while the project remains a priority, recent progress on a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada temporarily diverted her focus.

"It became impossible to focus on both at the same time," she noted, adding that the goal is now to move forward with the princess threequel.

However, the actress was careful to clarify that the film has not yet been officially "greenlit or confirmed" by Disney.

The star acknowledged the immense pressure surrounding the long-awaited follow-up, stating that expectations are "very, very high."

She emphasised that if the team proceeds, they must "knock it out of the park" to satisfy the dedicated fanbase.

Currently, Hathaway and her collaborators are "chipping away at the script" to ensure the narrative meets these standards.

In 2024, it was reported that Crazy Rich Asians scribe Adele Lim would direct the new instalment. While Hathaway is confirmed to return, the involvement of original cast members Julie Andrews and Chris Pine remains unverified.

The original 2001 film, based on Meg Cabot’s novel, served as Hathaway's breakout role, followed by a successful 2004 sequel. Fans now await official production news for the beloved franchise.
